Elix : To extract.
Elixate : To boil; to seethe; hence, to extract by boiling or seething.
Elixation : A seething; digestion.
Elixir : A tincture with more than one base; a compound tincture or medicine, composed of various substances, held in solution by alcohol in some form. ;; An imaginary liquor capable of transmuting metals into gold; also, one for producing life indefinitely; as, elixir vitae, or the elixir of life. ;; The refined spirit; the quintessence. ;; Any cordial or substance which invigorates.
Elizabethan : Pertaining to Queen Elizabeth or her times, esp. to the architecture or literature of her reign; as, the Elizabethan writers, drama, literature. ;; One who lived in England in the time of Queen Elizabeth.

Elkwood : The soft, spongy wood of a species of Magnolia (M. Umbrella).
Ell : A measure for cloth; -- now rarely used. It is of different lengths in different countries; the English ell being 45 inches, the Dutch or Flemish ell 27, the Scotch about 37. ;; See L.
